Insurance Requirements in Florida
The Florida Financial Responsibility Law applies to both Florida motor vehicle owners and Florida motorcycle owners. It requires minimum insurance coverage with the following insurance coverage:
- Bodily Injury Liability (1 person) $10,000
- Bodily?Injury ?Liability (all persons, 1 accident) $20,000
- Property Damage Liability $10,000
- Combined Single Limits Policy $30,000
This is ridiculously low amounts of coverage. It means that if you’re hit on your motorcycle by some auto driver not paying attention, he could be insured for as little as $10,000 and that is within the law.
SOLUTION: When you buy your bike insurance, ask for uninsured and underinsured motorists coverage. At least $100,000. It’s amazingly cheap. I have $500,000. Just ask your insurance agent….they’ll know. Be protected for yourself and your family.
