I never met a biker who couldn't use a few extra riding tips. Here are 3:

1. Proper technique for waiting at a red light:

Keep your bike in gear. Make sure you have an escape route. Watch the rearview mirrors for that idiot out there who seems to smash in to motorcycles sitting at red lights. If the bike is in gear, you have a much easier time of e
scaping than if you have to take the time to pull in the clutch and put it in gear.

2. Clearing your visor while riding in the rain:

On the freeway, alternate between turning your head to the right and to the left. KEEPING YOUR EYES
AHEAD. The wind blast will blow the water off your face shield, just like it does from the windows on the side of
	your car.

3. Riding on grooved payment:

This can always be a little scary, when your bike starts to squirm under you. Loosen up on the handlebars. Let the b

ike squirm a little. I'm not saying to let go! Just loosen up. You'll be fine.

Insurance Requirements in Florida

The Florida Financial Responsibility Law applies to both Florida motor vehicle owners and Florida motorcycle owners. It requires minimum insurance coverage with the following insurance coverage:

Bodily Injury Liability (1 person) $10,000

Bodily Injury Liability (all persons, 1 accident) $20,000

Property Damage Liability $10,000

Combined Single Limits Policy $30,000

This is ridiculously low amounts of coverage. It means that if you're hit on your motorcycle by some auto driver not paying attention, he could be insured for as little as $10,000 and that is within the law.

SOLUTION: When you buy your bike insurance, ask for uninsured and underinsured motorists coverage. At least $100,000. It's amazingly cheap. I have $500,000. Just ask your insurance agent....they'll know. Be protected for yourself and your family.

Motorcycle Accident Causes & Factors

In 2006 a study was done which was funded by the National Traffic Safety Administration. Some of its findings are as follows:

Approximately three-fourths of motorcycle accidents involved collision with another vehicle, usually a car.

In most of these accidents with cars, the driver of the car violated the motorcycle right-of-way and caused the accident.

The failure of auto drivers to detect and recognize motorcycles in traffic is the main cause of motorcycle accidents. The driver of the auto did not see the motorcycle before the collision or saw the motorcycle too late to avoid the collision. (Now we have cell phone use and texting!)

Intersections are the most likely place for the motorcycle accident, with the auto violating the motorcycle right-of-way.(When approaching the intersection, watch those front wheels. Not the driver!)

Weather is not a factor in 98% of motorcycle accidents.

Most motorcycle accidents involve a short trip associated with shopping, errands, friends, entertainment or recreation, and accident is likely to happen in a very short time close to the beginning of the trip. (Mine did.)

Fuel system leaks and spills were present in 62% of the motorcycle accidents in the post crash phase. (If possible, get the heck away from your bike!)

The motorcycle riders involved in accidents are essentially without training; 92% were self taught or learned from family or friends.

The typical motorcycle accident allows the motorcyclist just less than 2 seconds to complete all collision avoidance action.

Although there is no foolproof way to ensure that you will never be involved in a motorcycle accident, there are steps you can take to help ensure that you are visible to other drivers and can avoid serious injuries.

Always wear a helmet when riding. Even though Florida riders with sufficient insurance coverage who are over the age of 21 may choose not to wear a helmet while riding, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) statistics indicate that helmets are 37% effective in preventing fatal injuries to motorcycle riders. It is also important to wear other protective gear, including gloves, a jacket, boots and pants.

Drive as though motorists cannot see you. Driving with your headlight on and avoiding other drivers’ blind spots can help you avoid being involved in a collision because another driver simply did not see you. Motorcycles are significantly smaller than other vehicles and may be more difficult to spot on the road.

Obey all traffic laws, avoiding speeding, driving under the influence and any other reckless behavior.

Always take weather and road conditions into account when riding; these may have a far more significant impact on a motorcycle than other types of vehicles.

If you are involved in an accident in spite of precautionary measures, make sure you contact an attorney as soon as possible to assist you with your claim. Contact a Tampa Motorcycle Accident Attorney at Florida Biker Law today for a free case review.

It is being reported that half-brother of Washington Redskins' player Albert Haynesworth, Lance McCoy has been killed while riding his motorcycle in Gallatin Pike in Tennessee.

According to reports, he was driving at a high speed when a Nissan Altima pulled out of a parking lot. He attempted to change lanes to avoid the car, but was unsuccessful. His bike collided with this other vehicle around 9 p.m. on October 7. He was flown to Vanderbilt Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead.

There has been no findings of any involvement of drugs or alcohol, and it is being said that the main cause of the accident was the high speed in which McCoy was driving.

If you have recently lost a loved one due to a collision involving motorcycles, then you should not hesitate to contact a Florida motorcycle accident lawyer as quickly as you can.

There are several important steps to take in the time immediately following a motorcycle accident. Taking these steps will have a positive impact on the outcome of your claim and your ability to recover full financial compensation for the injuries you have experienced and the damage your bike has sustained.

Remain at the scene – not only is it the law that you must remain at the scene of an accident you are involved in (even if you did not caused the accident), but this is your opportunity to get the information of the other driver or drivers involved for your insurance claim.

Report the incident to law enforcement.

If possible, take pictures at the scene and get the contact information of any witnesses who observed what occurred; they may be able to help support your side of the story and the other party’s responsibility for causing the accident.

Report the incident to your insurance company.

Refrain from discussing the cause of the accident with the other driver’s insurance company or law enforcement to avoid saying or doing something that would indicate you should be held liable.

Seek medical attention.

Contact a Tampa Motorcycle Accident Attorney as soon as possible to get legal help with your claim.

While driving their motorcycles down U.S. Highway 231 near Alford, Florida, with his friend 50-year-old Gordon Ward, 67-year-old Willie Peach collided with the back of a sedan, driven by 28-year-old Sabrina Lindahl.

Upon the collision, Peach was ejected from his pike. Lindahl took what is described as "evasive action" as she swerved to avoid his unmanned bike, however in doing so, she resulted in striking Ward. Ward's bike then drove into the guardrail.

All three were injured with injuries ranging from mild to severe, but no one was fatally hurt. Peach, who had been riding without a helmet, was injured the most severely and was promptly taken to a local hospital where he was proclaimed to be in critical condition.

In the time immediately following a motorcycle accident, it is vitally important that you do not hesitate to secure the necessary assistance from a Florida motorcycle accident lawyer.

Motorcycle accidents, like any type of traffic collision, are primarily caused by driver negligence. This means that a motorist or the rider of the motorcycle acted in some way that constituted a failure to act with reasonable caution or care in the circumstances. Speeding and drunk driving are leading causes of motorcycle accidents, as is driving while distracted. Motorcycle riders also face an increased risk of losing control and being involved in a collision due to hazardous roadways, heavy weather and obstacles in the road.

If you were injured in a motorcycle accident in the Tampa area and are looking to discuss your legal rights with a competent attorney, you have come to the right place. At Florida Biker Law, we represent injured motorcyclists who have been injured in collisions caused by virtually any one or more contributing factors, including another’s negligence, defective bike parts, dangerous roads and much more.

Determining the cause of your motorcycle accident and seeking maximum financial compensation are important parts of the legal services that an attorney at our firm will provide when handling your insurance claim or lawsuit. We often work with crash scene investigators, accident reconstruction experts and other qualified professionals.

In a collision in Orange County, California on Saturday 9, nine-year-old Robert Darwin Promer was riding as a passenger on the back of his father's motorcycle when they collided with a pickup truck on Route 612.

It is being reported that the driver of the truck did not see the motorcycle and turned into it.

Robert's father, Mark Promer, was injured and taken to a University of Virginia Health System hospital where he is being cared for. Robert, however, died at the scene of the accident.

If your or a loved one have suffered injuries or have lost someone you care about to a wrongful death due to the negligence or carelessness of third party, then you should not hesitate to secure the legal assistance of a skilled Florida motorcycle accident lawyer.

Motorcycles are dangerous, however, more often than not accidents involving them come at the hands of the other drivers on the road who are simply not careful enough in keeping their eyes peeled. Their poor driving behavior can cost you a catastrophic injury, or in extreme situations, a wrongful death. This is not something that you can simply leave up to chance. Contact a Florida motorcycle accident attorney at Florida Biker Law to receive the legal aid that you deserve.

Two people were injured in a motorcycle versus car accident that occurred around 2:30pm on October 14th, 2010. The collision occurred in Sebring, Florida near the intersection of Lakeview Drive and U.S 27 by a CVS Pharmacy. The motorcycle struck a Volkswagen Beetle, causing serious damage to the passenger side of the car. Radio chatter initially indicated that the motorcycle rider was lying face down at the scene of the collision and was not moving, but Sebring Fire Lt. Miles McGee, who was off-duty at the time but came upon the accident and stopped to render aid, said that the injured motorcyclist gained consciousness. Both the motorcyclist and an injured passenger of the Volkswagen were taken to the hospital in ambulances.

In any multi-vehicle motorcycle accident, the rider of the motorcycle will typically be at a greater risk of serious injury. This applies even when the rider is wearing a helmet and proper protective gear. The force of the collision may cause broken bones, internal organ damage and other potentially catastrophic injuries that will change the rider’s life forever.

On Tuesday, October 12, it is being reported that a motorcycle police officer, 44-year old Pete Soto, was driving down Avon-Belden Road in Avon Lake, Ohio when he collided with a blue F-150 pickup truck.

Allegedly, the driver of the truck was pulling out of his driveway when the collision occurred and did not see the motorcycle coming. Soto was ejected from his motorcycle immediately upon impact, and was described to be under the front of the truck by witnesses.

If you or a loved one have been victimized in a motorcycle accident due to the negligence or carelessness of another party, then you should not hesitate to secure the legal assistance of a skilled Florida motorcycle accident lawyer as quickly as you can.
